QAST Coaching Pathway
Experience the Other Side of Ski Racing
The QAST Coaching Pathway is designed for teenage athletes who have completed their competitive racing journey and are ready to step into the exciting world of coaching. Participants will share their love of skiing, refine their own skills, gain hands-on coaching experience with younger athletes, and have fun with friends along the way.
Who Can Join – Age & Prerequisites
Athletes should:
- Be born between 2009–2013
- Have strong skiing fundamentals
- Demonstrate motivation, discipline, and teamwork
- Be excited to help younger athletes learn and grow
Focus Areas:
- Developing personal skiing technique
- Understanding ski mechanics and biomechanics
- Gaining practical coaching experience
- Preparing for Level 1 or Level 2 coaching qualifications

2026 Coaching Pathway – Program Overview
Program Details:
- Training at Coronet Peak & The Remarkables
- Optional Interfield races
- Freeski days at Cardrona & Treble Cone
- Out-of-town weekend: Roundhill or Ohau (snow dependent)
Schedule:
- Part-time: Weekends & school holidays
- Half-day Learning+ half-day shadowing
Groups:
- Foundation Group: Born 2012–2013 (Max 6 athletes)
- Development Group: Born 2009–2011 (Max 6 athletes)
Coaching Qualifications:
- Born 2010 → Eligible for Level 1 in 2026
- Born 2009 or earlier → Eligible for Level 2 (if Level 1 completed)
Season Dates:
- Start: June 24, 2026
- Finish: October 3, 2026
- Total: 15 weeks
Athlete Goals
Short-Term Goals:
- Refine personal skiing technique
- Develop coaching skills and confidence
- Gain hands-on experience delivering ski lessons
- Support younger athletes and be a positive role model
Medium-Term Goals:
- Achieve coaching qualifications (Level 1 & Level 2)
- Build technical mastery of skiing
- Develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
- Prepare for future coaching or ski-related careers
